Kia ora koutou,

Congratulations to all the schools who worked tirelessly over the last few months and submitted entries into this years Nati Awards competition.
A total of 563 entries were received and they have now been sent out to the judges for their assessment. Finalists will be publicised next week and the winners announced at the Nati Awards ceremony on Wednesday 17th September, starting at 5pm. Please read on to find out more about this years’ festival.

Nati Award Entry Statistics:

In 2008 563 festival entries included:

•12 Original Music compositions
•15 Animations

9.15am Expo Opens
Schools to set up for ICT Team Challenge

9.30am ICT Team Challenge Briefing (teachers are allowed 5 minutes with students then must leave)

9.45am Challenge Begins

11.00am Guest Speaker Workshop Begins

12.00pm Guest Speaker Workshop Ends

12.30pm ICT Team Challenge Ends
ICT EXPO Ends

1.00pm Presentations from ICT Teams begin

2.45pm Presentations end

ICT Expo

At this years expo a Supreme Award worth $500 will be awarded to the best school expo site. (As a Supreme Award it does not go towards overall aggregate prize).

A panel of judges will select the Best Site using 4 main criteria.

Here is some other information about the ICT EXPO set up.


•Please bring all the power leads, multi- plugs, monitors, screens, etc necessary for your ICT expo display.


•The venue is TKKM o Te Waiu o Ngati Porou Hall (you may set up the afternoon before but please contact Hinerau at Te Waiu before arriving)


•The expo runs from 9.30 am to 12.15pm. The powhiri will be at 8.45am


•Schools MUST have set up their sites prior to the powhiri on the morning of the expo.


•Schools are welcome to show their Nati Award entries at the Expo but please not any that are finalists


•Please register with Leeanne Morice at E Tipu E Rea. Once all registrations are received schools will be notified where they will be located on the floor plan.

ICT Workshop

Each year at the Festival we hold an one hour ICT workshop, where digital media professionals are invited to talk to a group of students about their careers.

This years Guest Speaker will be television presenter Matai Smith, who will be talking about his career since starting as an 18 year old at Marae.


We are asking schools to choose 2 students per Primary school and 2 per secondary school to take part in this workshop


Please encourage your students to research (eg. Google) information about Matai, so they have some questions prepared for the workshop beforehand.

MEDIA

Former Tolaga Bay Area School & Hatea a Rangi student Candice Davis is now a reporter/presenter for TV 2’s I am TV show (Saturday Morning 10am). Candice will be bringing a television crew with her to film some segments at the Festival and Nati Awards ceremony.

Food
›There is no set lunch time
›Te Waiu will have food stalls with a variety of food for sale

Accommodation
›Ngati Porou Marae is available for away schools to use in between the Expo and Nati Awards. Please contact the ETER office if your school would like to make use of the marae.
›Schools must make their own arrangements for tea

Sponsorship
›It is the expectation of sponsors that schools will use the prizes to advance ICT within their schools.
