2009 Festival Theme
The theme for this years Nati Award competition is:Nga Pakiwaitara o Ngati Porou
Ngati Porou is reknown for our extraordinary and entertaining storytelling abilities. This year’s Festival kaupapa encourages students to transform our pakiwaitara (fictitious stories, fables and fairytales) into creative digital mediums ie. animations, wikis, music videos etc.
The purpose of pakiwaitara is intended to teach a lesson or a moral. There is always a message or point to the stories which reflect our Nati World View - our Ngati Porou cultural/spiritual beliefs & values.
So be inspired by our rich storytelling history and retell, reinterpret or reimagineone of our many pakiwaitara 21st century style!
Some Ideas to get you started:
- research pakiwaitara from your hapu and create a documentary or short film
- make up your own Ngati Porou pakiwaitara and tell the story in a 3D animation
