2012 Festival Kaupapa: A Tatou Korero- Our Stories, Our Voices"
This year’s festival encourages rangatahi to reflect upon the theme, “ A Tatou Korero- Our Stories, Our Voices”, and transform their understanding of this kaupapa into a range of digital media ie. documentaries, digital photographs, animations etc.
Educational: What are stories, and what are their purpose? What different kinds of ways can you tell a story? Who does “Our” represent? Eg. Rangitahi perspective, Iwi perspective, hapu perspective?
Historical: Research what are some examples of Ngati Porou oral history projects? What is the process of recording oral histories? Ie. Nga Tamatoa- Price of Citizenship etc...
Cultural: Interview pakeke from your rohe about stories from their own lives. Interview other young people from your rohe about stories from their own lives.
Intellectual: Do you think this quote by Cherokee Indian writer Thomas King is relevant to Ngati Porou? -" The Truth About Stories Is That's All We Are."
Nati Awards Close off for entries: Friday 27 July.
